I have compiled some dining room ideas for new builds. It can be difficult to decorate normally, but moving into a brand new home where every wall is blank can be a huge design challenge.

I hosted a giveaway on my Instagram page at the end of June, giving away 3 prizes in hopes that it would help me decided what type of design services I would like to offer.

The first prize that was won was for three sources, but as design usually goes, it wasn't going to be very helpful for me to give actual sources for a space that was not yet created. So we brainstormed and instead I decided to give Natasha some ideas for the space she was asking about.

Design Question for the Blank Wall in Dining Room

Natasha sent me the plans to her new home that is not yet finished and asked for suggestions for the dining room wall that would be seen from the front entrance. She hasn't had a formal dining area before and was looking for some unique ideas on what to do with the empty wall space.

"I know plans are tricky to look at. But maybe some kind of piece or idea for this wall in the dining room. So it's what people see when they are standing in the foyer."

    Natasha

Large Scale Art Work for Dining Room Design Ideas

My first suggestion for this blank wall is large scale art. This wall is in plain sight of the front door, so some large floor to ceiling artwork would be a great way to draw the eye back into the house.

Having large artwork is a statement, it's always a great way to make a faraway space feel cozy.

Large art can be hung on the wall, or simply placed on the floor. Both ways provide the same amount of visual impact and are great for a large blank wall.

Large Mirrors for Dining Room Design Ideas

My second suggestion for a large dining room wall are mirrors, especially because this space can be seen from the front door.

The reflection of the mirrors helps to add more interest to a wide-open space. It will also help to provide more light, the dining room we are looking at won't have a lot of natural light, so adding mirrors will help.

Much like the large artwork, a mirror can be hung on the wall or placed on the ground, leaning. Having a mirror that is not fastened to the wall also gives you the flexibility to move it with the changing of the sun. The sun will change depending on the time of day and month of the year.

If you are lacking light in a certain area you can move your mirror to help bounce the light into different areas of your home.

Feature Accent Wall for Dining Room Design Ideas

My third suggestion is simply adding a feature wall. It is more subtle from the front door, but it will add character to space and draw the eye in to see more.

A very simple and safe way to add character and interest, especially to a new build would be with a simple board and batten application. You can add a fun pop of colour to it, or leave it the same as all the other walls.

We did something similar in our bedroom that you can check out in our 6 Inexpensive Ways to Update Your Home on a Budget.

If you are looking for a more bold option, you can try a very fun and large print wallpaper pattern. This dining room works because of the simplicity of the kitchen behind and of the neutral dining room furniture.

A more subtle way of adding the element of a feature wall is to add texture. New builds are usually all painted the same colour without any features. Adding something like a faux brick wall with either wallpaper or low profile bricks is a perfect way to add texture and interest.

Gallery Wall for Dining Room Design Ideas

My last design suggestion would be adding a gallery wall. There are so many fun and easy ways of doing this. In our home with have a growing gallery wall that we add to overtime.

Gallery walls can consist of artwork, and vary in size and colour. This option showcases your personal sense of style.

For a more polished look, you can add a simple symmetrical gallery wall. The large three frames and simple and minimal and create a great point of interest.

If you are looking from something that will draw people into your home try adding a floor to ceiling symmetrical photo wall. You could do this with black and white photography or colour, both are sure to draw your guest back and into your home for a better look.

I hope these dining room design ideas inspired you to decorate that giant blank wall in your home. While these ideas were curated for a dining room that could be used in any area of the home.

    Enjoy and happy designing!
